New Route Direction for 2017!

Boasting spectacular views of the Elk Mountains and the city of Aspen, Colorado, the Aspen Backcountry Marathon & Half Marathon is run almost exclusively on high country dirt trails. Challenging ascents, exciting descents and wide diversity in terrain will challenge even the most well trained athlete.


So get your running shoes on and come run the most challenging and scenic marathon or half marathon you’ve ever run!

Marathon Cash Purse:
1st place Male and Female = $600
2nd place Male and Female = $400
3rd place Male and Female = $200

Half Marathon:
1st place Male and Female = $150 Adidas Gift Card

King of the Mountain - Marathon, Male and Female - $250 Adidas Gift Card**
King of the Mountain - 1/2 Marathon, Male and Female - winner's plaque**

Top Three finishers by age-group for the Marathon (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+) will receive an Adidas gift certificate for $150.

Top Three finishers by age-group for the 1/2 Marathon (19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+) will receive a ribbon.

All finishers will recieve a Stainless Steel Pint Glass.

The Aspen Backcountry Marathon and Half Marathon will be CUPLESS COURSES! For hydration, you can purchase a reusable / foldable soft-cup from UltrAspire for $6 during the registration process. We recommend that participants use their own hydration system on this backcountry course, in addition to the reusable cups.
